"One of the things I like about McMurry is the size of the campus. It's a smaller campus, and it doesn't leave you feeling overwhelmed like a larger campus might. I also like how the class sizes are smaller, allowing you to have more one-on-one time with the professors."
and Leadership
As a McMurry University student, you have the opportunity to expand your academic experience beyond the classroom and develop strong leadership skills that will serve you throughout your educational career and beyond.
The McMurry University Honors program allows you to develop creativity, critical thinking and independent research skills and go even further in-depth in your area of study. As an honors student, you have access to unique honors events, such as attending informal seminars with visiting speakers, traveling to academic conferences, and attending dinners with professors and other students. You also have the opportunity to do specialized, supervised research in your major and complete an honors thesis your senior year. Honors graduates are often accepted into competitive graduate and professional programs from top universities around the nation.
You can also enrich your academic experience through travel. Several of our classes and programs offer travel experiences throughout the U.S. and even overseas. Through our Model UN program, you can travel to the United Nations in New York City and visit with foreign diplomats or sit on a panel hosted by the U.S. Mission to the UN. Through the School of Business, you can study business in the Big Apple and tour the New York Stock Exchange or travel to London to study international finance. Art and history students can tour museums and historic sites around the world, and religion students can study the Taizé Monastery in Taizé, France. As a biology student, you can travel to Mexico to learn about local fauna and flora or visit Boston to see humpback, fin and minke whales. No matter what your discipline, McMurry believes your education can be enriched by opportunities to travel and experience the world in a new way.
One of McMurry's most unique leadership opportunities is our Servant Leadership
Program. Your Servant Leadership experience begins with the Servant Leadership
course designed to focus on the moral roots of responsible leadership. In
addition to in-class lecture, you complete 30 hours of community service
with a small group of students. Community service opportunities include Abilene
Housing Authority, Ben Richie Boys Ranch, Hendrick Home for Children, Abilene
State School, Habitat for Humanity, Food Bank of Abilene, Abilene Teen Court
and several local elementary schools. Once you've completed the Servant Leadership
Program, you can continue the experience by serving as a mentor or preceptor!
