The School of Social Sciences and Religion provides you with the opportunity to learn and grow, supporting an understanding of the importance that philosophy, ethics, a sense of history, social interaction and politics play in our everyday life. You may choose to become involved in a number of different programs. Political science majors can participate in our Model UN program, which incorporates coursework with participation and hosting of Model UN conferences, including travel to New York. History students have access to the resources of the McWhiney Research Foundation, particularly the Buffalo Gap Historic Village just south of Abilene. You can join religion students in a tour of top graduate schools of divinity or travel to the Middle East on an archaeological dig. You may even present undergraduate research papers at national conferences with the sociology and psychology departments. McMurry graduates from the School of Social Sciences and Religion go on to meaningful careers in their field. Many choose to pursue a graduate degree in areas such as law, divinity and education. Than Dossman, a recent history graduate, published his first book, Campaign for Corinth: Blood in Mississippi, through McMurry's McWhiney Press during his senior year. Duke Divinity School currently has three McMurry graduates completing their Master's of Divinity.
