Student Activities
Much of your college experience will take place in the classroom, but it definitely won’t end there! One of the most valuable parts of college life is your involvement, participation and membership in student activities.

McMurry offers so many opportunities for you to find your niche. You can make a difference in your community, affect change and become a leader. Check out just some of your opportunities at McMurry:

  • Over 40 different service and social clubs

The student-led Campus Activities Board also hosts a number of events available to all students. These events are a great way to meet other students in fun, low-key settings. It’s what college life is all about! Some of these events include:

Academic Enrichment and Leadership
Student Leadership
One of McMurry's most unique leadership opportunities is our Servant Leadership program. Your Servant Leadership experience begins with the Servant Leadership course designed to focus on the moral roots of responsible leadership.

In addition to in-class lecture, you complete 30 hours of community service with a small group of students. Community service opportunities include:

  • Abilene Housing Authority
  • Ben Richie Boys Ranch
  • Hendrick Home for Children
  • Abilene State School
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Food Bank of Abilene
  • Abilene Teen Court
  • Local elementary schools

McMurry University Honors Program
As a McMurry University student, you have the opportunity to expand your academic experience beyond the classroom and develop strong leadership skills that can serve you throughout your educational career and beyond by joining our Honors program.

The McMurry University Honors program allows you to:

  • Develop creativity
  • Strengthen critical thinking and independent research skills
  • Go even further in-depth in your area of study

As an honors student, you have access to unique honors events and can:

  • Attend informal seminars with visiting speakers
  • Travel to academic conferences
  • Attend dinners with professors and other students
  • Perform specialized, supervised research in your major and complete an honors thesis your senior year

Travel Opportunities
You can also enrich your academic experience through travel. Several of our classes and programs offer travel experiences throughout the United States and even overseas.

  • Through our Model UN program, you can travel to the United Nations in New York City and visit with foreign diplomats or sit on a panel hosted by the U.S. Mission to the UN.
  • Through the School of Business, you can study business in the Big Apple and tour the New York Stock Exchange or travel to London to study international finance.
  • Art and history students can tour museums and historic sites around the world, and religion students can study the Taizé Monastery in Taizé, France.
  • As a biology student, you can travel to Mexico to learn about local fauna and flora or visit Boston to see humpback, fin and minke whales.
